The Compostability Label by European Bioplastics (EN 13432) is a voluntary standard that certifies that a product is compostable in industrial or home composting facilities. The label is awarded to products that meet a strict set of requirements, including: the product must be made from a compostable material, the product must break down completely within 12 weeks in an industrial composting facility or 6 months in a home composting facility, the product must not release any harmful chemicals during decomposition and the product must not attract pests or rodents. Products that are certified with the Compostability Label by European Bioplastics can be composted with food scraps and other organic materials. When composted properly, these products will break down into nutrient-rich soil.
