The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is an international standard for organic textiles. It was developed in 2006 by the International Working Group on Organic Textiles (IWG) and is now the leading standard for organic textiles worldwide. GOTS certification applies to all stages of the organic textile production chain, from the cultivation of the fibers to the processing of the textiles and the final product. To be certified, textiles must meet a strict set of criteria that covers three areas: Materials, Processing and Labeling. GOTS certified textiles are becoming increasingly popular with consumers, who are looking for products that are made from organic fibers and are processed in a way that minimizes environmental impact.
GOTS-certified textiles are graded on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest rating. Textiles must meet strict organic and sustainable production standards to receive a 5 rating.
